Be Inspired - Custom Concrete Sculptures
One of the most exciting aspects of my job is that I get to see products start on a sketchpad and finished by seeing them used by the public. Whether it’s a new table design or a custom hand painted sculpture, I still grin from ear to ear seeing the public enjoy our products.
Our newest product to be released is a custom concrete sculpture of a Salmon. The idea came from a customer who saw our other sculpture of a Largemouth Bass. After seeing the detail on our Bass, she immediately asked if we could reproduce an image of a Salmon. It turns out, she had caught a very large Salmon on the river and wanted something to remember her amazing catch. We decided why not and went to work on a new sculpture.
Like any art form, designing and producing a sculpture doesn’t happen overnight. Many months of research and development went into the process before we could start on a mold. We decided on the final pose of the Salmon, body shape and size, and decided to include water and rocks to serve as a base. After going back and forth on the 3D rendering process, we were happy with how our Salmon would look. The process of creating the mold was next, followed by our first pour of concrete. When the first Salmon came out of the mold, it was amazing to see the detail we were able to achieve with the concrete. The final stage was to have our in-house artists take over and work their magic. It takes many layers of paint to get to where we’re happy with the durability of the piece. I would compare it to painting a custom hot rod. It takes a lot of care and attention to detail to get the level of depth achieved in the final color of the piece. Our artist used actual photos of the customer’s catch to get the perfect coloring and realistic look of a Salmon in the water.
When it came time to see the sculpture completed, everyone in the office was in awe. The Salmon turned out so realistic, we couldn’t stop looking at it from every angle. The photos don’t do the Salmon justice. In person, it looks wet and has the metallic shine of a real fish. And as for the customer who wanted to immortalize her catch? Her son picked up the sculpture and placed it in her garden to surprise her. We got the phone call a few hours later from the customer, relishing over how it turned out.
We are proud to be able to offer these types of sculptures to everyone. Our sculptures can be shipped via freight truck to anywhere in the U.S. They’re heavy duty and designed to handle harsh environments. In addition to our Salmon, we also have a Largemouth Bass, a gnome, books, and crates with simulated woodgrain texture. They can be custom painted to any specification, you’re only limited by your imagination. Why not have one with painted flames on it?
